About Us
Synergy began with a simple but powerful truth: too many Black women are not being heard during pregnancy and birth.
Our founder began supporting women informally in 2015, offering companionship, advocacy and emotional support during pregnancy and early motherhood to family and friends. Over time, what started as informal support grew into consistent community-based care for women navigating maternity services.
In 2022, she became a qualified doula, formalising years of lived and practical experience supporting women through pregnancy, birth and postnatal recovery.
Synergy was formally established in 2023 to bring this work into a structured, long-term service rooted in both lived experience and professional practice.

Our Founder
Synergy was founded by mother of three, Natalie Thomas-Gayle, whose personal experience of pregnancy and birth, combined with years of supporting other women, highlighted clear gaps in how Black women are listened to and cared for within maternity services.
Natalie's experience working closely with perinatal women and families exposed her to the preventable distress and complications linked to not being heard that many of these families faced, shaping the vision for Synergy.
The result of both lived experience and frontline support work coming together into a structured, community-led response, Synergy is built on years of community trust and direct support work with women and families in Bristol and the South West.
