Our Impact
According to MBRRACE-UK's 2025 report, Black women are "more than twice as likely to die during or up to six weeks after pregnancy compared with White women."
Why We Are Needed
Research shows that Black women in the UK continue to experience significant disparities in maternity care and outcomes.
Beyond statistics, many women report feeling unheard, dismissed or unsupported during maternity care. These experiences can have lasting emotional and physical consequences.
In Bristol and the South West, there is a distinct lack of consistent, culturally responsive, community-based support for Black women during pregnancy and early motherhood.
Synergy was established to help fill that gap...

Our Response
Synergy exists to provide the kind of support that every woman deserves throughout pregnancy, birth and early parenthood. Rather than focusing solely on moments of crisis, we aim to build confidence, strengthen relationships and create lasting networks of support for women and their families.
Through the Synergy Centre, we are developing:
-
A welcoming community hub for connection, learning and wellbeing.
-
Practical guidance, advocacy and support throughout the maternity journey.
-
Safe spaces for peer support, education and trusted conversations.
-
A long-term community resource designed to improve outcomes for future generations.
Our vision is a future where Black women experience pregnancy, birth and early parenthood with the same confidence, safety, dignity and quality of care as every other mother.
